Global Artivism Day 2024

What a conference celebrating Global Artivism inspired after days filled with exploration, meaningful connections, and crafting creative solutions together through the power of arts and culture. ✨

In the photos:
Favianna Rodriguez, co-founder and President of The Center for Cultural Power, who held an inspirational keynote at the Inaugural Global Conference on Artivism. It was called “Art, Social Justice and the Radical Imaginary”, and it framed the whole conference beautifully, putting the power of culture, art and activism in a global and historical perspective: “Art and culture shape our understanding of the world around us. Art changes people. People change systems,” she said.

15 amazing students who - in record time - captured key ideas, synthesised, and visualised them. Their graphic recording speaks for itself. “Life changing,” Onkgopotse calls it, and Felicity adds, “the stories from the participants from across the world wash through my body, light my mind, and come out through the drawings. I am so inspired.” Organised by Nicole Okumo and Matt Sullivan from Dpict Info students from Tshwane University of Technology and Design.

Katja Iversen, UN Live CEO, together with UN Live board members Kumi Naidoo and Omino Gardezi.

Huge thanks to the organisers: Tshwane University of Technology, Riky Rick Foundation, Global Commons Alliance, Community Arts Network, Kumi Naidoo and Mike Fleisch.

You can find recaps of all the sessions on YouTube.
